Investor Risk Reduction Access (IRRA)
Urja Investment Private Limited · A SEBI-mandated facility for investor protection
What is IRRA?
Investor Risk Reduction Access (IRRA) is a regulatory facility mandated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to protect investors during trading platform outages. IRRA provides clients with an alternative mechanism to manage their risk exposure when their primary broker's trading platform becomes unavailable due to technical failures or system outages.
The facility ensures that investors are not left helpless during critical market hours when their broker's systems are down. Through IRRA, investors can access essential risk management tools via an alternate platform to safeguard their positions and reduce potential losses.
Who Can Use IRRA?
IRRA is available to all registered clients of Urja Investment Private Limited who have active trading accounts. To use the facility, clients must:
- Hold a valid and active trading account with Urja Investment.
- Have completed the KYC process as per SEBI regulations.
- Be registered users of the UrNex trading platform or back-office system.
- Access the IRRA portal using their existing login credentials.
The facility is designed to be inclusive and accessible to both retail and institutional clients, ensuring equitable protection across all investor categories during system disruptions.
Key Features
Order Cancellation
Cancel pending open orders that may execute unfavorably during a platform outage, preventing unintended trades and reducing market risk exposure.
Position Squaring Off
Initiate squaring-off of open intraday positions to avoid automatic conversion to delivery and associated margin penalties.
Margin Management
Monitor and manage margin utilization in real time to ensure compliance and avoid trigger of square-off due to insufficient funds.
Alternate Access
Access a separate, resilient web-based portal independent of the primary trading infrastructure during system outages.
When to Use IRRA
IRRA should be accessed in the following scenarios during trading hours:
- Trading Platform Outage: When the UrNex trading platform or mobile application is inaccessible due to server downtime, network failures, or technical glitches.
- Order Execution Failure: When placed orders are not being transmitted to the exchange or execution confirmations are not received.
- System-Wide Disruptions: During widespread connectivity issues or exchange-mandated trading halts that affect normal platform operations.
- Emergency Risk Reduction: When rapid market movements occur and the primary platform is unresponsive, requiring immediate intervention to protect open positions.
SEBI has directed all stock brokers to provide IRRA as a mandatory safeguard. Investors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the portal before any outage occurs.
